I have finally started turning my attention back to my figs and in research am absolutely amazed at the diverse number of varieties of figs there are out there. Hundreds! And each one distinct from the others in one way or another. Here I’ll try to list the varieties and descriptions I’ve found on the internet and as my collection grows I’ll fill it out with my own descriptions and images.
There’s not much of a clearer sign that Spring is on the way than tough buds morphing into tender young leaves. Even in the greenhouse, my figs tend to go dormant over the winter – tho much later than they would normally. The loss of their luxurious leaves really cuts into the tropical feel of the greenhouse as they transform into sticks. Nevertheless, I wait, if impatiently – knowing that soon they’ll awaken and again fill their corner of the greenhouse with lovely, large leaves.

Ever since, whenever I found a fig tree, I’d go looking for figs. A relatively recent addition to my bank of horticultural hobbies is collecting and growing figs for myself.
